Data Science and Analytics, MS

A (STEM) program, fully delivered online, that prepares individuals to apply data science to generate insights from data and identify and predict trends. Includes instruction in computer databases, data warehousing, querying databases and reporting, data mining, predictive modeling and analytics, computer programming, inference, machine learning, optimization, probability and stochastic models, statistics, big data analytics, and visual analytics (data visualization).

Student Learning Outcomes


  • Design, implement, populate and query relational databases for operational data
  • Design, implement, populate and query data warehouses for informational data
  • Harness very large data sets (big data) to make business decisions
  • Evaluate the use of data from acquisition through cleansing, warehousing, analytics, and visualization to the ultimate business decision
  • Mine data and carry out predictive modeling and analytics to support business decision-making
  • Interpret and communicate data insights to any audience effectively
  • Discern when to implement relational versus document oriented database structures
  • Execute real-time analytical methods on streaming datasets to react quickly to customer needs

Admissions Requirements


  • A baccalaureate degree in any undergraduate major with at least a 3.0 overall GPA.
  • Introduction to statistics and computer programming courses (undergraduate level) are highly recommended to demonstrate the students’ quantitative and computer abilities. Incoming students who may lack the recommended courses can take the course(s) online from PennWest University before starting the MS Program.
