Student Learning Outcomes


Exercise Physiology Concentration Outcomes

  • Students will acquire an understanding of physiological adaptations related to metabolic, cardiorespiratory, and neuromuscular systems as a result of acute and chronic participation in various levels of physical activity, sports, and/or exercise.
  • Students will demonstrate the ability to administer and interpret appropriate preparticipation health screening procedures, fitness assessments, and exercise prescription for apparently healthy populations, individuals with controlled disease, and other special populations.
  • Students will gain a basic understanding of nutrition priciples related to metabolic processes, sports participation, and weight management programs.
  • Students will obtain the ability to optimize adoption and adherence of exercise and other healthy behaviors by applying effective behavioral strategies and motivational techniques.
  • Students will demonstrate the ability to evaluate and conduct scientific research in the field of Exercise Physiology.
  • Students will acquire the ability to develop and disseminate risk management guidelines for a  health/fitness facility to reduce member, employee, and business risk.
  • Students will demonstrate the ability to ensure that emergency policies and procedures are in place.
  • Students will understand the effective use of technology as it relates to the field of Exercise Physiology.

Golf Performance Conentration Outcomes

  • Explain physiological adaptations related to metabolic, cardiorespiratory, and neuromuscular sytems as a result of acute and chronic participation in various levels of physical activity, sports, and/or exercise.
  • Explain nutrition principles related to metabolic processes, sports participation, and weight management programs.
  • Optimize adoption and adherence of exercise and other healthy behaviors by applying effective behavioral strategies and motivational techniques.
  • Develop and write a comprehensive business plan 
  • While on each required internship, PGM students will demonstrate career specific knowledge and skills along with industry acceptable personality and professionalism 
  • Students will successfully complete the Player Development Program (PDP) requirements each semester until passing the PGA’s PAT
  • PGM students will recognize the need for and the ability to effectively develop a simple food and beverage outlet at a golf facility 
  • Research existing literature on an area relating to golf equipment, golf fitness and/or golf teaching methodologies 
  • Conduct hypothesis testing in the areas of golf equipment, golf fitness or golf teaching methodologies and report results in writing 
  • PGM students will demonstrate the knowledge, skills and techniques needed to successfully construct a golf club from component stage to finished product ensuring the proper fit and measurements for a particular customer 

Human Performance and Wellness Concentration Outcomes

  • Explain physiological adaptations related to metabolic, cardiorespiratory, and neuromuscular sytems as a result of acute and chronic participation in various levels of physical activity, sports, and/or exercise.
  • Explain nutrition principles related to metabolic processes, sports participation, and weight management programs.

  • Apply analytical and critical thinking to advance exercise and wellness initiatives for individuals and communities
  • Design safe and effective exercise programs to achieve desired outcomes and goals
  • Outline exercise progression guidelines for resistance, aerobic and flexibility activity to achieve the goals of apparently healthy participants
  • Assess muscluar strength, endurance, and flexibility
  • Disseminate education resources to support clients in the adoption and maintenance of healthy lifestyle behaviors
  • Seek new research of evidence-based practices within the human performance area
  • Develop meaningful community wellness programming benefitting defined populations

Nutrition and Fitness Concentration Outcomes

  • Students will demonstrate content knowledge related to the principles and practice of nutrition assessment and counseling, fitness assessment and prescription, community nutrition education, and the influence of nutrition on exercise performance, training, and recovery.
  • Students will communicate the importance of nutrition and fitness in a healthy lifestyle.
  • Students will interpret and apply nutrition concepts to evaluate and improve the nutritional health of individuals with medical conditions.
  • Students will demonstrate competence in the skills of assessment, planning, management and evaluation of nutrition and fitness programs.
  • Students will practice identifying peer-reviewed, reliable nutrition and fitness information and locate, understand, evaluate, and use the information effectively.
  • Students will identify employment opportunities available within the field. 
  • Students will develop and practice the beliefs, values, attitudes and behaviors for an entry-level professional in nutrition and fitness.
