CRJ 2200 - Correctional Systems


Credit Hours: 3

Correctional Systems is an introductory course that examines how American society chooses to treat its criminal offenders. Students learn about the history and development of punishment and correctional systems. Students are exposed to the theoretical and philosophical foundations of punishment including retribution, deterrence, incapacitation, rehabilitation and restorative justice. The course provides a broad overview of the American correctional system which incarcerates, treats criminal personalities, and protects the community by removing threats to the social order.
