PSYC 1250 - Introduction to Alcohol and Drug Counseling
Credit Hours: 3
This course is designed to educate entry level alcohol and drug counselors in accordance with the American Society of Addiction Medicine requirements and PA’s Department of Drug and Alcohol Prevention Program Certification requirements. Specifically, students will engage material in preparation for the successful completion of the International Certification and Reciprocity Consortium’s Alcohol and Drug Counselor Examination. The course provides an introduction to the basic knowledge, processes and practices of Alcohol and Drug counseling, including screening, assessment, treatment planning, referral, basic counseling techniques, and ethical practice.
