CHEM 3670 - Drugs from Discovery to Design


Credit Hours: 3

A study of the drug development and the pharmaceutical industry. The course will, follow the path that new drugs take from their discovery in the laboratory, through in vitro testing, clinical trails, to final Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval and post-market survellance. Attention will be paid to the role of the FDA, and ethical issues at every step along the path to market. Students will also examine drugs as molecules and how they function physiologically, as well as a look at the major in vivo targets of drugs.
