The minor in Hydrology provides an added credential for students interested in careers in water resources and environmental protection. Students gain content knowledge of the physical, chemical, and biological conditions of water resources, as well as the role humans play in affecting them. The Hydrology minor prepares students for work in environmental protection and remediation, mineral and energy resource management, public policy and infrastructure, and hazard mitigation. The workforce demands in areas of water resources, especially in western Pennsylvania, are high and the Hydrology minor is a unique and recognizable addition to a resumé.

Student Learning Outcomes
- Identify and quantify the reservoirs and transfer mechanisms of the Hydrologic Cycle.
- Define water availability and identify regions of the US and the world in particular distress related to hydrologic challenges of hazards, drought, and political/geographic inequity.
- Delineate watersheds, groundwatersheds, and wetlands and identify local or regional threats to those resources.
- Develop conceptual models of surface and groundwater systems and measure basic physical, chemical, and biological aspects of water systems to determine health of a watershed system.
Curriculum Requirements
Students must complete a minimum of 6 credits of advanced standing per the PennWest minor policy. Application/Advanced Courses
