A minor in Arabic provides students with a solid foundation of the Arabic language and culture, and arms them with critical and problem-solving skills as well as cross-cultural literary, which they can use to market themselves and obtain gainful employment.

Student Learning Outcomes


  • Students demonstrate listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills at the beginner to intermediate level of Arabic, consistent with the National Standards for Foreign Language Education. 

  • Students identify and analyze literary, historical and cultural products of the Arabic-speaking world within a broad historical framework. 

  • Students demonstrate critical thinking skills in comparing cultural products and practices of the Arabic-speaking world with their own cultures. 

Curriculum Requirements


Students must complete a minimum of 6 credits of advanced standing per the PennWest minor policy.
