Deaf Education, Certificate

The Certificate in Deaf Education is a program to train teachers to work with children who are deaf or hard of hearing in a variety of educational settings as Teachers of the Deaf (TOD) or general special education teachers from Early Intervention through high school.

Student Learning Outcomes


  • Students will analyze the philosophical, historical and legal foundations of education of students with disabilities. 
  • Students will analyze the models and theories of typical/atypical growth and behavior across age groups, and philosophies that provide the foundation for research based special education practice. 
  • Students will Develop skills in communicating and collaborating with educational partners. 
  • Students will synthesize ideas on the impact of various educational placement options as dictated by the Individual Education Plan (IEP) with regards to cultural identity, linguistic, academic, communication, psychological and social-emotional development.
