Earth and Space Science, Minor

The minor in Earth and Space Sciences is designed to introduce the student to the fundamental knowledge base, skill set and techniques related to
understanding Earth system history, processes and interactions. The minor includes broad exposure to the physical spheres of the Earth - land,
water, and air - as well as approaches used to understand, assess and solve basic Earth and Space Science problems.

Student Learning Outcomes
Students are required to demonstrate:
- Knowledge, understanding and use of the principles of geology, oceanography, meteorology, climate science, and astronomy
- Ability to use reasoning and logic to define a problem in terms of principles of geology, oceanography, meteorology and climate science, and astronomy
- Ability to design and/or conduct experiments and/or observations using principles of geology, oceanography, meteorology and climate science, and astronomy
- Ability to properly analyze and interpret data and make meaningful comparisons to current earth science related issues
Electives
Selected from any Astronomy (PHYS 1200 or PHYS 1220), Geology (GEOL prefix) or Atmospheric Science (ATMS prefix) course. Six credits must be advanced with a course number of 3000 or higher.
