The Sociology Minor enhances the value of any major at PennWest, offering students the opportunity to explore current topics and issues in society. This minor has considerable flexibility that enables students to tailor their coursework to align with their majors and interests. Students will develop marketable analytical and research skills and gain knowledge about the groups, cultures, organizations, social institutions, and processes that exist in our society.

Student Learning Outcomes


  • Demonstrate an understanding of the sociological imagination and the interconnections between society and the individual.
  • Identify social, cultural, historical, and institutional patterns of inequality.
  • Apply sociological perspectives to the study of social life.
  • Describe the methods commonly employed by Sociologists and other social scientists.
