This minor provides an introduction to the fundamental principles of robotic systems, including mechanical elements, electronics, and basic robot control architecture including sensing, localization, navigation, and collaboration. Durable skill outcomes include problem-solving, teamwork, communication, and professional development. Technical skills outcomes include use of Computer-Aided Drafting software, 3D printing, mechanical assembly, reading and interpreting mechanical and electrical schematics, selecting and reading sensors, selecting and controlling actuators, designing and building logic circuits, and reading and writing code to control simulated and hardware systems.

Student Learning Outcomes

  • Understand the components needed in a robotic system and explain their role in the control system.
  • Apply control system principles to write functional code to control a robot system.
  • Develop and build a robotic system project from a concept to a functional prototype.
  • Function effectively on a team as both a leader and a collaborator.
  • Communicate technical and non-technical information effectively, using written, oral, and graphical communication techniques.
  • Understand and describe the importance of professional development and lifelong learning.
