Literature and Culture, Certificate

A student completing a literature certificate will encounter readings covering the breadth and depth of literary writing.  The student will be introduced to the relationships among art, history, and culture while developing specific skills in writing, analysis, and critical thinking. 

Student Learning Outcomes


  • Demonstrate practical knowledge of a broad range of literatures and theoretical perspectives as well as an in-depth knowledge of a particular area of study.  
  • Conduct ethical research and analysis that executes critical and theoretical responses to literary and cultural topics and that demonstrates a working knowledge of conventions of professional literary scholarship.  
  • Critically assess through written and oral communication how social difference, cultural constructs, and discourses of power shape the production and interpretations of texts.

Prerequisite: ENGL 1200 - College Composition

  • Any two 3000 or 4000 level literature course Credit Hours: 6
