Mechatronics Engineering Technology, BS

This program prepares individuals to apply mathematical and scientific principles to the design, development, operation, and evaluation of computer controlled electro-mechanical systems and products with embedded electronics, sensors, and actuators. The program focuses on industrial robots and automated systems. Includes instruction in mechanical engineering, electronic and electrical engineering, computer and software engineering, and control engineering.

Student Learning Outcomes


  • Select and apply knowledge, techniques, skills, and modern tools appropriate to mechatronics engineering technology.
  • Apply concepts of circuit analysis, analog and digital electronics, automation and controls, motors, electric drives, power systems, instrumentation, and computers to aid in the design, characterization, analysis, and troubleshooting of mechatronics systems.
  • Use advanced principles of statics, dynamics, fluid mechanics, strength of materials, engineering materials, engineering standards, and manufacturing processes to aid in the design, characterization, analysis, and troubleshooting of mechatronic systems.
  • Use differential and integral calculus in the characterization and analysis of mechatronics systems.
  • Conduct standard tests, measurements, and experiments, and analyze and interpret the results to improve processes.
  • Use appropriate computer languages and application software that pertain to mechatronics engineering technology systems.
  • Function effectively as a member as well as a leader on technical teams.
  • Apply written, oral, and graphical communication in broadly-defined technical and non-technical environments; and demonstrate an ability to identify and use appropriate technical literature.
  • Understand the need for and demonstrate an ability to engage in self-directed continuing professional development.
  • Address professional and ethical responsibilities, including a respect for diversity.
  • Explain and analyze the impact of engineering technology solutions in both local and global contexts.
  • Apply commitment to quality, timeliness, and continuous improvement.
