A certificate in Spanish for the professions provides students with a basic understanding of the Spanish language and cultures, as well as basic Spanish language skills to conduct daily life and to perform tasks of interpretation, translation, and other tasks of communication in a variety of professional fields.

Student Learning Outcomes
- Students demonstrate listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills at the beginner to intermediate level of Spanish, consistent with the National Standards for Foreign Language Education.
- Students identify and analyze literary, historical and cultural products of the Spanish-speaking world within a broad historical framework.
- Students demonstrate critical thinking skills in comparing cultural products and practices of the Spanish-speaking world with their own cultures.
