Speech Language Pathology, MS

The Master of Science program in Speech-Language Pathology is offered at PennWest-Clarion, PennWest-California, and PennWest-Edinboro. The program provides students with the academic knowledge and clinical experience for careers in a variety of professional settings. Our alumni are employed by hospitals, schools, rehabilitation facilities, skilled nursing facilities, clinics, early intervention facilities, and private practices. They are qualified to provide services to people of all ages who have communication and/or swallowing and feeding disorders. PennWest faculty members encourage students to become thoughtful and insightful decision makers. Students work closely with faculty and clinical instructors as they learn to make informed professional judgments and use contemporary approaches to prevention, diagnosis and management across the speech-language pathology scope of practice. Students must complete all academic courses and clinical practicum required for clinical certification by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. The programs at Edinboro, Clarion, and California are accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, 2200 Research Boulevard, #310, Rockville, MD 20850, 800-498-2071 or 301-296-5700. All programs continue to maintain their individual accreditation through the initial accreditation process for PennWest, assuring no lapse in accreditation for the programs.  

Student Learning Outcomes

Demonstrate adequate knowledge of principles of basic science and normal development in relation to speech, language and hearing for entry level into the profession.
Demonstrate knowledge of characteristics, etiologies, and diagnostic and treatment methods for each disorder area within the scope of practice for speech-language pathology.
Apply and integrate discipline-specific knowledge to develop and implement appropriate diagnostic and clinical management plans, providing services resulting in evidence-based practice in speech language pathology.
Demonstrate knowledge of professional and ethical standards of conduct.

Application System

Applicants will apply to our program online using the CSDCAS application system by searching “Pennsylvania Western University.” Within the PennWest application, applicants will indicate the campus or campuses for which they would like to be considered (i.e., California, Clarion, and/or Edinboro). Deadlines

Applications for Fall enrollment must be submitted by 11:59 PM ET on February 1.
Applications for Spring enrollment must be submitted by 11:59 PM ET on October 15.

Review Process

Applications for each campus location are reviewed by a committee on an ongoing basis. Applications will only be reviewed once the application is complete, all transcripts are verified, and three letters of recommendation are present with your CSDCAS application. Decisions are made by placing candidates into tiers of admission as applications are reviewed. Do NOT submit payment, transcripts, or GRE directly to PennWest University. We welcome applications from individuals from any state or country.
