The Master of Arts in Arabic Language and Linguistics is designed for students interested in gaining advanced expertise in Arabic language and linguistics. Such knowledge and skills can be used in professions such as: educator, linguist, translator or interpreter.

Student Learning Outcomes
Graduates of the M.A. in Arabic program will demonstrate advanced communication skills consistent with effective professional practice in Arabic Language & Linguistics, such that graduates will:
- Construct and deliver well-organized, content-appropriate oral (in Modern Standard Arabic or dialect) presentations in Arabic communities and culture. Topics could be social, cultural, and/or political aspects of Arabic language and literature development.
- Participate in professional activities, such as conferences or public forums, publishing research results or reviewed scholarship, writing and submitting grant proposals, preparing research reports for an outside agency, or participating in community service.
Graduates of the M.A. in Arabic program will demonstrate professional and cultural competence, social responsibility, and ethical sophistication in performing research and professional activities, such that graduates will:
- Complete university institutional review board’s human subjects research training or a disciplinary equivalent.
- Participating in a professionally recognized association or society with a clearly defined, published code of ethics by which members must abide.
Graduates of the M.A. in Arabic program will possess an advanced knowledge base and demonstrate critical thinking skills necessary for developing and disseminating their research and creative scholarship, such that the graduates will:
- Synthesize and integrate published research into their research.
- Critique and evaluate the validity of published research.
- Identify a problem or gap in the published literature.
- Design a methodologically sound empirical study to answer the identified problem or gap in the literature.
- Analyze obtained data using appropriate methods (quantitative or qualitative).
- Evaluate the validity of obtained evidence.
- Draw sound theoretical and empirical conclusions.
