Tactical Strength and Conditioning, Post-Baccalaureate Certificate

This Certificate focuses on tactical strength and conditioning theory and practical application.  Students learn how to operate within a high-performance team of professionals to generate holistic training solutions that optimize bio-mechanics and metabolic processes geared to the unique challenges of tactical careers.  In addition to courses such as designing and implementing tactical strength and conditioning programs, students will complete a research-based course as a capstone and a research paper focused on a personalized area of interest.  They will earn their Tactical Strength and Conditioning Specialist Certification from the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).

Student Learning Outcomes


  • Assess for both routine and extreme demands of tactical professions that influence how to design safe and effective training programs.
  • Compile a high performance team (e.g. dietitian, physical therapist, mental performance specialist) to best optimize the tactical athlete’s effectiveness.
  • Determine biomechanical and metabolic demands placed on tactical professionals due to the unique nature of their professions.
  • Assess job relevant physical capabilities of tactical professionals.
  • Build exercise programs using warm-up, power, strength, and energy system focused training principles to enhance health and performance needs of tactical professionals.
  • Design and implement a comprehensive strength and conditioning program tailored specifically to address the unique needs of a tactical professional.
  • Construct training programs to accommodate various sized groups of trainees with variable equipment availability.
  • Develop solutions to current performance challenges by applying both relevant research and principles of strength and conditioning.
